What we think we know acne is increasingly replaced by what scientists are learning. At the same time, many myths continue to rotate, and endure. Clearing land some of the misconceptions of acne is what this article says.
Myth # 1: Acne only affects appearance
Acne can also cause psychological distress. Severe acne can lead to low self-esteem and depression feelings. There is a strong relationship between severe acne and social withdrawal.
Myth # 2: Acne is caused by poor hygiene
While skin infections are associated with acne, lack of cleanliness is not the cause of outbreaks of acne. The combination of fat and dead cells that cause acne below the skin surface where it is impossible to clean and remove. Gentle cleansing with soap and water once or twice a day helps keep your skin healthy as possible. Scrubbing too hard can aggravate acne.
Myth 3: Acne is caused by certain foods
Chocolate has long had a reputation as a producer button. Studies have shown no scientific evidence that this is true. The same goes for potato chips and sugar. There are certain foods that seem to aggravate (not cause) the condition: milk and foods high in iodine such as fish and crustaceans.
Myth # 4: Acne is an anachronism
There are many acne treatments available, both prescription medicines and strong of a dermatologist.
Myth # 5: The more acne medicine the better
Some people believe that if their acne gets worse they simply must use more drugs. It is a bad idea because medicines can be dangerous if taken in large quantities. The excessive use of acne ointments may only irritate the skin further.
Myth # 6: Tanning is good for acne
Exposure to sun dry the excess oil, so no short-term improvement of acne. However, long-term skin adapts and the acne is unfazed. Worse, there is no scientific evidence that sun exposure damages the skin and increases the chances of skin cancer.
Myth # 7: Makeup causes acne
Some products may clog the trick, which is bad for your health to the skin. Cosmetics that are labeled "noncomedogenic" or "nonacnegenic" are safe to use. Some brands have ingredients that actually cure acne.
Myth # 8: Acne is only a teenage condition
While most teens have acne, so do many adults. Acne usually disappears in 20 years. But some people experience acne for the first time as late as 40 years. And the most unfortunate of all, some people endure acne flare-ups throughout their lives.
Myth # 9: Acne is related to sex
We have all heard that it is probably too much sex or celibacy causes pimples. There is no evidence. And 'between sexual activity and the production of hormones, but the relationship between gender and the production of sebum (an oily substance which combines with dead skin cells to cause acne) is not known. Stress and anger also affect hormone levels.
Myth # 10: Popping pimples is the best way to get rid of them
The fact is popping the pimples may worsen acne by spreading the bacteria that causes it. Appearing also can lead to eventual scarring which in severe cases, may be permanent.
