What is the most important information I know Accutane?

Accutane can cause severe life-threatening birth defects if the mother takes medication during pregnancy. Even one dose of Accutane can cause major congenital malformations of the child's ears, eyes, face, head, heart and brain. Do not use Accutane if you are pregnant.

More Acne Treatments

At one point all of us have been trying to find ways on how to be completely acne-free. Here are some natural and not so natural acne treatments that are proven to be effective.

1. Witch Hazel Astringent

This astringent comes from the plant with the same name. It is widely spread from Nova Scotia in Canada down to Texas and Florida. Simply steam the twigs of this plant and voila! The extract you get from it serves as your astringent. Remember to cool it though. What’s good about this is that it occurs naturally and even the process it has undergone is all natural. You can be assured it is less harsh compared with commercially-produced astringents.

2. Commercially Produced Astringents

There is no doubt that astringents we can buy over-the-counter are also effective. There are lots of variants to choose from with additional ingredients that promote better skin. The only downside is it can be a little harsh because of the chemicals added to produce this formula. Use them with extra care as they can dry the skin.

3. All-Natural Treatments

Kitchen and acne are two enemies we may not be aware of. Scout your kitchen for stuff like oranges and lemons, fresh garlic and raw potatoes.

- Oranges and lemons just need to be squeezed on cotton balls. Apply the extract on      affected areas and wash it after about 20 minutes.

- Fresh garlic is used much easier. Just remove its peeling and rub it on your face.

- As for raw potatoes, peel them and rub its flat surface on your face.

The natural extracts from these fruits and vegetables can help minimize the redness at the same time can clean the skin.

4. Oral Antibiotics

For severe cases, antibiotics are prescribed. These medications are orally taken to reduce the amount of bacteria inside and around skin follicles. They also decrease the exasperating chemicals that the white blood cells produce. Lastly, antibiotics diminish the concentration of the free fatty acids found in sebum, also creating an anti-inflammatory action. Consult your dermatologist for the right antibiotic and dosage.

Tetracycline is still the most commonly prescribed antibiotic for acne treatment. Most of this antibiotic should be taken on an empty stomach. Also, this shouldn’t be used by pregnant women and children under 9. Usually, the starting dose is initially 500 milligrams twice daily and is continuously taken until prescribed, or until a considerable dropping off of lesions is visible.

Erythromycin comes close second and can be prescribed to pregnant women. However, it can cause nausea and even upset stomach. Compared to tetracycline, which can only kill bacteria, Erythromycin has both anti-inflammatory and bacteria-killing properties. Also, this antibiotic needs to be taken in a food-filled tummy. You may discuss other possible antibiotics with your doctors regarding the effects and side-effects of each.

5. Topical Treatments

Externally applied creams are also proven effective for acne treatment. However, it results to drying and flaking but it is said to be the most effective treatment for severe acne. Benzoyl peroxide is one very common and effective topical acne treatment.

Acne develops in stages. If we allow the acne to grow in the third stage, it may burst and also leave permanent scars. To understand how acne can be stopped to grow until the second or third phase, it is important to know more about the later stages of acne.

Blackheads and whiteheads are first stages of acne. In later stages, which operate as a papule, pustule, nodule and cyst. We will learn more about them.

What is the papule - a slightly elevated papule is a lesion that is stable. Papules are usually less than 5 mm.

What is a pustule-pustules are filled with pus, which contains dead cells, white cells and bacteria. Pustules are fragile and are prone to rupture. Pustules are dome-shaped and contain the hair in the middle, when they form the sebaceous follicle. Pustules, cysts can progress.

What is a nodule, the nodule is an inflamed lesion that extends into the deeper layers of the skin. Papule and nodule shows a dome-shaped papule. Nodules can cause scarring, because they can damage the internal tissues and skin.

What is a cyst, a cyst is a severe form of acne that is filled with bacteria, white blood cells and dead skin. Cysts can be very painful and extend inside the skin damaging the skin tissue. Any acne damages the skin tissue can form scars.

For these forms of acne, it is always best to consult a dermatologist and get treated not only to cure acne fast, but also stop scarring as much as possible. Acne and Birth Control

For some female patients, treatment-resistant acne is caused by excessive production of hormones called androgens. With extra androgens in your system, your sebaceous glands go full speed - and the fact that your acne. Several clues can help the doctor identify the acne that can be influenced by hormones, the acne that appears in adults, for the first time, acne flares before menstrual cycle, irregular menstrual cycles, hirsutism (excessive growth of hair in unusual places) and high levels of certain androgens in the blood.

Adult women and teenage girls that acne has resisted treatment with antibiotics or topical retinoids may be candidates for hormonal therapy. When the patient's acne is identified as hormonally active, your doctor may prescribe a variety of treatments, or perhaps a combination of several different medications, "Combination therapy" is often the best approach for this type of acne. Here are some common components of treatment with hormonal acne, but be sure to consult your doctor before using any of the remedies listed here.

Acne / Birth pills - pills. Birth control pills (a combination of estrogen and progestin taken orally) are often prescribed for hormonal acne. Low doses of estrogen help suppress the androgens produced by the ovaries and the recent progestational agents, including desogestrel and norgestimate are less androgenic than those found in older formulations. While only Ortho Tri-Cycle and Estro-Step are currently FDA approved for this indication, experts agree that low dose contraceptives improve acne regardless of which formula is used. Talk to your gynecologist to find the formula for you. Although side effects are rare, some women experience brown spots or melasma (hyperpigmentation) on the skin. These can be treated with topical bleaching agents.

Pill against acne / Birth - The anti-androgens. In combination with the pill, even doctors may prescribe an anti-androgen, these substances inhibits the production of androgens by the ovaries and adrenal glands and help prevent existing androgens causing excessive oil production. Spironolactone, a drug against high blood pressure with anti-androgenic properties, has been very effective in the treatment of acne. Side effects can include breast tenderness, menstrual irregularities (in women not using oral contraceptives), headache and fatigue, as it is also a diuretic, you may experience frequent urination as well.

NOTE: Spiranolactone is tetrogenic and can cause feminization of a male fetus. If you are sexually active and not taking "the pill", it is imperative that you use another method.

General Acne Information

Statistics show that as many as 80% of the entire U.S. population has had acne. Acne problem all kinds, sex, age and so it is a common skin disease. As a form of skin disease, the good news is that acne is not transferable.

Although acne is not contagious from person to person, it can spread all over your face and can seriously affect all tissues of the skin, which are the pilosebaceous units. It is true that acne affects only through puberty. Even children, or people who may be well over forty, can develop this skin disorder. Infantilis Acne is the term used for acne, growing babies, on the other hand, the rosacea is associated with middle-aged people.

Acne has different classifications depending on the severity of the infection.

Blackhead is a form in which all cases of severe acne. This is characterized by swelling or small red lesions on the skin. Pimples and blacks are two different comedo. On the other hand is an open comedo comedo. The color is due to the accumulation of dark skin pigment called melanin, as well as hardened sebum and skin residue and particles. This is the basic structure of pimples, however, the only difference is the color, and these are found in deep layers of the skin.

If you have paper-like skin around the mouth tissue and the surface of your forehead, chin and cheeks, you probably have papules. Pus-filled lesions are also known as pustules.

Nodules on the other side is the same with pustules. But tumors are firmer and acne develops deep into the skin. Inflammation can develop your pustules on materials containing semi-liquid or liquid consisting of white blood cells (which are dead because of the acne bacteria that infects named as Propionibacterium acnes), dead cells and bacteria active or inactive. This can lead to more severe acne called cysts. In such situations, you can use the help of a dermatologist or skin.

What causes acne? It is difficult to determine exactly what may have caused your acne infection and the reasons differ from case to case. Studies indicate that skin disease can be caused by many factors, such as poor diet, stress, climatic factors and hormonal changes and may be influenced by genetics.

Medically, acne begins the formation of hardened sebum or the oily substance secreted by the skin through the sebaceous glands. This, then, is full acne-infected bacteria, which in turn will trigger the immune system to release white blood cells to prevent the attack of bacteria. When this happens, the dead cells of bacteria and white blood cells accumulate in the hair follicles mixed with fragments of skin and dead skin particles, which then ignite damage.

Most mild cases of acne can be treated with more medication against acne. They are generally topical medications that you apply on your skin for the treatment of acne. They can come in the form of soaps, creams, gels and creams. Conversely, systemic medication against acne oral. The most common are antibiotics.
