How does acne develop?
Acne is a disease of the pilosebaceous units [PSU], which consists of sebaceous glands connected to a canal called a follicle, which contains a layer of fine hairs. These sebaceous glands produce an oily substance called sebum that normally empties onto the skin with the opening of the follicles. When the walls of the plugged follicle breaks down, everything starts to reverse, such as sebum, bacteria and shed skin cells, resulting in lesions and pimples.
